Welcome to my blog!

Well, I made it through the week and what a week it has been!  Got to the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter in Camden, SC yesterday and got some great shots of some “real” dogs who would love to have a “forever” home.  Some of them had such sad eyes.  It makes you wonder what they must have been through before they ended up at the shelter.  I don’t even want to think about that.  I am an animal lover myself, and after five children you can imagine we have had all kinds of animals during our time of raising them.  We have had fish, turtles, Iguanas, frogs, all sorts of birds including African Grey’s and Cockatoos, Monitor Lizards, several cats and various dogs.  That does not count the ones dropped in our area that we fed and still feed!  I cannot stand to see an animal or human mistreated or unloved.  But so much for my feelings, let me tell you how the photo shoot went at the shelter.

The first dog my assistant came out with was this BIG black and white dog and it looked as if the dog was walking my assistant.  I thought…oh my…what have I gotten myself into.  We tried all kinds of bells and whistles to get him to be still and look up with no success.  Then we tried one of the kibble treats in the plastic container.  Well, then the dog wanted to eat the plastic container!  But we found if we gave the dog a bite of kibble and then held the plastic container in the air and shook it we were able to get the dog to at least look up once or twice and I had to grab the shot quickly.  On top of that, someone was shooting a gun in the neighborhood which was freaking the dogs out.  They were mostly scared to begin with being taken outside by strangers and then when they heard the shooting they were looking around to see where it was coming from.  But in spite of all the obstacles we were able to get some really good shots of them and hopefully one of you dear readers may see their wonderful sad eyes and be willing to open your heart and home to them.  They need someone who cares!  Their new photos will be posted on the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter website as soon as I have them all edited.  I am posting just a few for you today.

This animal hospital needs a lot of support.  It is not as nice and big as the one in Richland County and I do not think it gets near the support.  They take donations of any kind, food, blankets, money, whatever.  So if you have something you think they might use, be sure to drop it off.  They are doing their best NOT to put animals to sleep, but find them good loving homes.

We also got our new puppy today.  She is not quite six weeks old.  This little Shihtzu girl is so tiny.  My other Shihtzu is not sure what to make of her.  She wants to play with her, but acts like she is afraid of her at the same time.  Our other Shihtzu has never had puppies so I do not think she knows what it is.  It is funny watching them get to know one another.  We named her Cocoa as she is dark chocolate and white.  Once I get some photos of her I will post some for you to see.

I hope your week has been a good one.  It looks like we might have a nice weekend.  I am SO ready for winter to be over, but I know we still have February to go through.

This coming week I need to get some people photos.  So look out!  I may just catch one of you being yourselves!!   Thanks for your support!

Here are a few of the dogs from the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter in Camden, SC.  They need a good caring home.  Their faces tell the whole story!

I love these two photos of two little brothers playing together.  I was positioned with my zoom lens a good distance from them, so they were very intent at what they were doing, playing in the dirt, totally unconcerned that I was there.  Years from now, when they are grown and still close it will be nice to look at these and remember when.

This young graduating senior was not feeling well at all the day we shot these photos, but by the end of the session he let loose with this photo below.  It reflected all the effort and time put into the years leading up to this special day.  His personality shone in spite of how he felt physically and it truly is reflected in this photo.

Here’s an example of an artistically designed album page.  This little guys blue eyes just stood out to me.

Had a great time taking these photos!
